I Think I’ve Found The Real Life Shrek, Let’s Scroll Through History
It seems Maurice Tillet inspired Shrek
I don’t need to give much description, there is an 80% chance you’ve watched the movie and the case is the same for most people around the world regardless of age but I’ll still say something.
Even though it’s been two decades Shrek has been one of the most-watched animated movies of all time. It involves a smelly, Ugly looking Ogre whose life was filled with mystery. Shrek’s adventure began the night when a number of fairy tale creatures, all banished from the city by the dwarfish king, Farquaad found themselves in his compound.
Yes, the picture above is not doctored it is a true piece of a man who looks just like Shrek, now the question is this the man who inspired Ogre? was he also sent by the king on a dangerous mission? One thing is certain this man is quite an interesting man.
Maurice Tillet was born on October 23, 1903, to Russian parents, his mother was a teacher while his father who died while Maurice was still so young worked at a rail transport company. Maurice’s parents had to flee with him to France when the Russian revolution that gruesomely killed about 10 million people began.
While still young
While still young, Maurice had a beautiful face, so noticeable that he was nicknamed the angel due to his angelic face. His nightmare began in his early 20s when some parts of his body including the head and feet began to swell up. Visiting a doctor, he was diagnosed with a quite rare condition, acromegaly. This health defect is not deadly, it is caused by a tumor in the pituitary gland that results in bone overgrowth and thickening.
Maurice Tillet’s Career
Even though Maurice Tillet was never interested in wrestling Karl Pojello a fine wrestler at the time fruitfully convinced Maurice to enter the show. He did not regret it as he recorded more victories in the arena than most of his peers.
Becoming a wrestler requires more than a hugely developed body, a potential wrestler needs to be trained. Paris Maurice moved to Paris where he was taught how to fight in the arena started his wrestling career in France and London before moving to the United States due to the second world war.
One of his glorious fights took place in Boston Massacheusett (1940) facilitated by a promoter, Paul Bowser who pushed him to fight as the main eventer of the match. Maurice, as expected quickly gained fame due to his excellent performance and the shape of his body so different from other wrestlers in the area. I believed this sparked Maurice’s sudden love for the occupation and remained unbeaten for the next 19 months. He was always like a God in the arena, his opponents lying beneath his feet.
Maurice remained the champion of the American Wrestling Association (AWA) World Heavyweight Championship for two years. He fought the then-popular wrestler, Tor Johnson (Swedish Angel) and before he decided to end his career due to deteriorating health Maurice Tillet stood his last ground against Bert Assirati in Singapore. The match could have ended with the belt on his waist but he decided to lose.
Maurice Tillet Marital Status
Some sources have it that Maurice Tillet was never married most likely because of his shape nor did he have a girlfriend but there is a popular rumor that the Wrestler who wanted to become a lawyer once married a lady at teenage of 19 who was eaten by a tiger somewhere in Africa but there isn’t an element of truth in that.
In another piece of information, Maurice Tillet was said to have been married to Olga Morasse but once again this postulation is wrong because:
Olga Morasse was the future wife of Karl Pojello, the very Maurice’s best friend and the amateur wrestler that kickstarted his career. Even though Karl was not fascinated by everything the girl had to offer for reasons best known to him but they got close anyways.
His Death
Maurice Tillet died on September 4, 1954, in Chicago just a few months after his 51st birthday after battling a cardiovascular disease for some years. He was buried in a national cemetery in Lithuanian. Pojello, his best friend followed him closely, he died a few hours after Maurice’s death.
Well, there isn’t many similarities between the two characters other than the facial look of course.
